Cake Smash and Splash Session!

So what is a Cake Smash and Splash Session?

Quite simply, it’s a bit of fun for you and your little one…. Messy fun. It’s a chance for them to pretty much do whatever they want with the cake in front of them. Some simply sit there and smash the cake, some sit there and eat it, some even put their head in it, but all in all, they absolutely love the sessions. After all, it’s one of the only times they get a chance to make a mess without us parents giving them a telling off. Once they’ve finished with the mess, it’s into my roll-top bath tub then to clean up and get some more shots of them enjoying the water. Whatever they choose to do in the cake smash and splash session, I’ll capture every moment for you to keep and show them what they were really like at their younger age.

Step 1 – Book the session

Simply give me a message to arrange a suitable date and time for you and your child to attend the session. Let me know which of the two sessions your interested in i.e. either the Cake Smash Session or the Cake Smash and Splash Session. Payment will then be required to cover the session cost only. There’s no need to select the photo package you’d like until after I’ve taken the photos, edited them and uploaded them onto a private gallery for you to view.

Step 2 – The first photos of the session

I start by taking some pre-smash portraits of the child which will include a few props such as the background, buntings and a few other bits. This is where the clothes that he or she has on are still clean and tidy. I’d also welcome you to get involved in the photos at this stage too. These shots will be great for capturing the childs initial emotions and expressions before the fun really begins…

Step 3 – The cake smash – Where it gets messy

Here comes the cake!!

After we’ve finished taking the standard portrait shots, we’ll then introduce the cake to your child. This is where they tend to lead the way themselves, but we can always help them along to make a bit of a mess themselves and then leave them make an even bigger mess. You’re again welcome to get involved here in the photos, although most like to remain clean themselves, but you’re welcome to let your child get their own back on you. I’ll carry on capturing the photos of the cake smash session throughout from when the cake is whole, to until it’s been well and truly smashed. If you chose to just have the cake smash package, this is where your visits ends and it’s over to me to clean up, or you can go with the Cake Smash and Splash session and your child can jump into my roll-top bath to clean themselves up.

Step 4 – Cake Smash and Splash – Let’s clean that cake up

If you choose to have the splash session included in with the cake smash. Then it’s a chance for your little one to jump into my roll top bath which we’ll have filled with bubbles and milk water. Your child can then again splash around as much as they like to clean all that cake and icing off and I’ll once again capture all the best moments. Once cleaned up, you can get your little one out, throw on a clean set of clothes and that’ll be it. Mission accomplished. You’ll love the session and most importantly hopefully, so will your child.

Step 5 – Over to me – Time to edit the photos

Once the photoshoot is over, I’ll go away and professionally edit your photos ASAP. Each photo will be edited in Adobe Photoshop to ensure your child’s smile and best features stand out. I always try to get these completed within 2 weeks, but can be as long as 4 at peak times.

Step 6 – Upload and time to choose a package

Once I’ve completed the editing, I’ll upload your session to a private section of my website which you’ll need a password to access the photos. Only you and whoever else you hand your password out too can access your specific section. The photos will be live in this section for 2 weeks where you’ll get to select from the below photo packages you wish to have from the Cake Smash and Splash session. Once you’ve chosen your package, the remaining balance will then need to be paid and I’ll prepare the CD or USB for you along with any extras you’ve ordered from me, ready for you to collect or I can even post if more convenient for yourself.

What do I bring to the cake smash and bath sessions?

I recommend you bring at least a change of clothes for your child and possibly yourself if you’re likely to get involved in the photoshoot too. Please also bring a soother if your child has one and their favourite toy/s to keep them occupied at the start of the cake smash session. The usual items too for your child such as nappies, wipes, drinks etc. If you choose not to purchase a cake from me, then please also bring your own cake. You are also welcome to bring your own props or even a personalised bunting with your childs name on if that’s something you’d like. It’s your session, so feel free to do as you please.

When should I book?

The simple answer to this is ASAP. They’re traditionally booked for the child’s first birthday, where they’re hopefully sitting up comfortably and starting to be a bit mischievous. I would recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure you have your desired space, but I am pretty flexible, so feel free to message me with your ideal date. Some clients like to book a month before their childs first birthday to ensure that they have the photos ready for their birthday or some like to leave it until around their birthday, totally upto you.

What shall I dress my child in?

This comes down to personal preference. Some clients go the whole cake smash shoot in a single outfit whilst others like to change before the cake is brought into the session. The choice is yours and there’s no additional charge for outfit changes. A good idea would be a smart outfit for the portrait shoots and a personalised top saying “Mason Love Cake” for the cake smash, but have a quick search on the internet for some ideas, there’s plenty out there.

Do I supply the cake?

You are more than welcome to bring your own cake along with you and your child. Or, if you’d prefer, you can purchase one from myself. Below are a couple of samples of my favourite cakes along with the prices.

Standard Single Tier Cake

I’d recommend introducing your child to the taste of cake before the cake smash and please advise of any allergies prior to the cake smash taking place.

How long do the sessions take?

The sessions are usually relatively quick and approximately 1-1.5 hours in total. If the child plays along nicely, they can often be done quicker than this too. The child attention span is quite short at this stage so an hour is usually a great time to finish.

How do I get my photos?

After the photoshoot is finished, it’ll be over to myself to edit the photos and they’ll be uploaded into a private gallery that only you or I can access with a given password. One you’ve viewed the photos, you will then have to select a photo package which you’ll find on my website. If it was only a cake smash session your child had, then you would select a package from the “Cake Smash Packages” section. If you had a Cake Smash and a Bath Splash session, you would have to choose from the “Cake Smash and Splash” section. Please note you cannot choose to have cake smash only package if your child also had a splash session.I’ve tried to make my session prices as clear as possible, so any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me a message and I’ll be more than happy to help.

Once the package has been selected and paid, I will prepare you photos and any extras that you’ve ordered and these can be collected or posted out to you, whichever you’d prefer. Note, if you order a canvas, you will be required to cover the postage charge as it can be quite expensive to post these.

Thank you

Thanks for taking the time to read a bit about the Cake Smash and Splash sessions and I hope to see you and your little one in the near future. Should you have any further questions on anything that you’re unsure about, then please don’t hesitate to send me a message. My contact details can be found on the website.

Thanks again,
Leah
